There will be 13 gardens to view on the first ever Calverley Open Gardeens on June 16. The gardens are large, small, cultivated and… ‘informal’! Most are in the village, with three up at Woodhall Hills Hamlet
Maps will soon be available in the Post Office and other local shops, or download your copy from here. The gardens will be identified with bunting and balloons. Please make a donation at your first garden, and feel free to make donations at any other gardens! Some will be selling plants or knitted hedgehogs.
All profits will support The Hedgehoggery charity which cares for our spikey friends!
Kate and Viv did a fantastic job, but stood down at the AGM. Thanks to them both for all their hard work, but now we need to find a replacement. Can you help? Unfortunately we can’t open our stores until we get one! Preferably you should be a plot holder or CHS member.
The role entails:
– Managing the stores rota
– Managing the float/takings
– Ensuring the stores shelves are stocked
– Annual bulk order of goods and stock-take
There’s an honoraria of £100. The post can be shared
Please contact Bev Smith if you are interested or have any questions – email@example.com
How have your veg grown? How good is your fruit? How colourful are your flowers? Can you bake a good cake? Or make tasty jam? Maybe you’re an artist, or a photographer, or wine-maker. The annual show schedule is now available with 105 classes to enter, including six classes for children.
This year for the first time we have a People’s Choice Award for visitors to the show to choose their favourite handicraft.
We have a greenhouse full of growing plants ready for the annual plant sale on Saturday May 19.
The sale, at Calverley Methodist Hall, will start at 10am, half an hour earlier than on previous years, finishing at 11.30am so bargain-hunters and helpers at the sale will be home in time to watch the royal wedding!
It’s always a popular event and sells out quickly, so get there early to avoid disappointment.
Here’s more dates for your diary:
Annual Show – 25 August, 2.30-5pm at the Methodist Hall
Open Day at the allotments, 12 August, 10-1pm
And don’t forget, the stores open every Sunday, 10.30-11.30 for compost and other supplies.
Happy New Year, everyone! The snow has gone from the allotments, not that it stayed very long, and has been replaced by water, lots of it, thanks to storm Eleanor. There’s quite a few puddles, especially down the slope, so get ready for mud!
Subs are currently being collected, a bargain at £4 for the year, and thanks to Owen and Molly, we have a newsletter, with a lovely reminder of warm summer and autumn days..!
Here’s some dates for your dia
Plant sale – 19 May
Open day – 12 August
Annual show – 25 August

A big thanks to Kate Taylor who has volunteered to be Stores Manager, David McQueen, who has done the job for the past five years, has stood down, thanks to him and Pat for all their hard work. Kate will be helped by Viv Tomlinson.
